This exhibit explores the enigma that it is to be human - form and content.
An artist who is passionate about the study of the human form confronts a spiritual life. How do you represent compassion and community-building in portraiture? Can you paint a spirit of love, character, service, humility, courage, longing, self-sacrifice, and wisdom of the aged? Can you portray spirit in watercolor, pastel, oil and charcoal? This is the essence of this exhibit: the exploration of form and spirit through portraiture.
Artist and activist was not Janet's goal, but to use her craft to capture heartbreak, human challenges, and victory of spirit - that is her heritage and calling. This is Janet Wentworth Erickson, an artist of form and social conscience.
